ATL stands for Alternative Spray Greening, Technical Greening, Landscaping.
As the name indicates, the company deals with environmental issues namely erosion control, greening and dust prevention with a high-tech approach at e.g.,
road construction, quarries, landscaping, like airports, dams, golf courses and roof top greening,
we are closely cooperating with ATL Begrünungs GmbH, Germany and its group members,
a leading company in Europe with over 40 years of experience in hydroseeding.
ATL Hydroseeding East Africa Ltd. was incorporated in Kenya in April 2005 as the latest member of the Germany based ATL Group that embraces 4 branches in Germany, companies in Spain, Sweden, Austria, Poland, Italy and Hungary.
After a successful demonstration and pilot phase in 2005 to introduce and prove this technology under East African conditions. the National Environment Authority (NEMA), Ministry of Roads & Public Works, has granted approval for the commercial use of the technology. followed by KeNHA, KeRRA, and embraced by construction companies.

Hydroseeding (wet seeding technique) according to DIN 18918 (DIN = German Industrial Norm) is suitable for the reliable long-term recultivation or greening of hard to reach areas or terrain not accessible to vehicles and areas with extremely demanding conditions (difficult terrain) with the aim of protecting the soil from erosion.
A special mixture of seed, fertilizer, soil conditioners, mulching material and soil enhancers is sprayed onto the generally sloping terrain from special vehicles equipped with jets or from hose lines. The seed mixture consists of species which are suitable for the location and are drought resistant. Mixers provide for homogeneous slurry and ensure an even greening result. An organic tackifyer glues the slurry and anchors it to the soil particles of the topsoil layer in a solid matrix. The tackifyer provides reliable protection to the soil surface and the attached from wind and water erosion.

Difficult terrain is a term used to designate an area with extremely demanding conditions due to its substrate, exposure, slope, or climatic conditions (steep slopes, high altitude areas, open-pit mine sites, slag heaps, etc.).
Hydroseeding of difficult terrain uses a greening mixture created especially for the area with water and tackifier adhesive which is sprayed evenly onto the surface to be seeded. This nutrient substance is suitable for establishing durable and vital vegetation even on the most adverse surfaces.
The seed mixture consists of species which are suitable for the location and are drought resistant.

Certain areas or sensitive terrain need to be protected temporarily or permanently from wind and water erosion. In some cases, greening of the particular terrain is not the main objective or perhaps not even desired.
The hydroseeding technique facilitates soil binding and dust control of the top soil layer by the use of concentrated tackifiers and soil stabilizers.
Environmentally sound and ecologically neutral products guarantee reliable protection and are completely bio-degradable; no substances harmful to flora or fauna are produced.
In this way, reliable erosion control for slag heaps, industrial areas, grounds near chip production plants, airports, runways, and similarly exposed areas can be provided.

If sloped surfaces are particularly erosion-prone or if special stresses are to be expected (e.g. excess precipitation run-off from other areas) special geotextiles of natural fibers may be used in combination with an appropriate vegetation to improve erosion control on that surface.
Geotextiles provide the option of increased surface protection. They are spread onto the surface after hydroseeding and anchored to the ground with steel pegs or stakes. Their good microclimatic characteristics have a favorable impact on germination. Since they consist of natural fibers, they decompose - depending on the material - within a few years. During this period, erosion control will be taken over by the vegetation.
We supply all geotextiles and erosion control blankets which are available on the market and provide professional spreading and anchoring for them.

In addition to more than 40 years of experience in hydroseeding, we have also been involved in designing and building special recultivation equipment for more than twenty years.
We do not just sell our machines, but use them daily in the greening of many thousands of square meters, our hydroseeders are state of the art. The experience gained in daily implementation is fed directly and immediately into production of those machines.
The machine (Hydroseeder) used in Kenya is equipped from the basic lorry with a separate unit for the hydroseeding exercise to ensure effective operations
• a tank with a capacity of about 6.000 liters
• a stirring device that keeps the substances in homogeneous suspension to guarantee an even greening result
• a specially constructed pump system providing the required pressure
• devices and nozzles with hoses, that allow to reach areas difficult to access with the heavy truck up to 100 m from the machine (application from the ground)

The services ATL Hydroseeding E.A. Ltd. offers is based on a large professional background, due to
• The technical know-how for over 40 years in hydroseeding and back up facilities available through the two German Directors, owners of the Germany based ATL Group
• The educational background (Ph.D.), training and work experience of the Managing Director as agronomist for tropical and semitropical regions and on environmental issues, as well as through over fifteen years of experience through his Kenyan company in the environmental and agriculture field; BiologicalEnvironmentSystems & Products Ltd. (BESyP)
• Many years experience in local administration and own business of the Kenyan Director
• Local technicians with a vast experience in vehicle and machinery mechanics and the local spare part market
We are recruiting the local collaborators in the different regions of the country, in line with contracts and train them constantly on all aspects of hydroseeding both technical and mechanical as well as environmental and biological aspects (seeds, soils).
Only in the early years after the business registration, we used the support of non Kenyan technicians (although residents) to jump start the business successfully.

As to successfully execute the hydroseeding exercise and to be able to quickly respond to project demands, a certain stock, in particular for the imported material is necessary, but also for some local material.
Hence storage capacity is imperative.
The relatively fast and reliable supply of the imported material is guaranteed being part of the ATL Group
The material we need to import is mainly
special technical cellulose (as mulching material),
tackifyer (to stop erosion and hold all the material together)
growth stimulant (for root growth)
which is also improving the water holding capacity due to its biological nature
erosion mats with pegs
